Family
ASTRO was launched in the San Francisco Bay Area in March 2001.
A special effort was made to recruit leaders from organizations
that work with families who are generally underrepresented in science
education. Some veteran Project ASTRO partners joined Family ASTRO
to add to their repertoire of activities and extend their involvement
with families. Other training participants include museum educators
and youth group leaders. Our second Bay Area leader training took
place in November.

FAMILY ASTRO LEADER TRAININGS:
SAN
FRANCISCO BAY AREA
Next
Family ASTRO Leader Training: Saturday, October 25th,
2003, at the office of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific
After
a successful launch in 2001, we have received many inquiries about
future leader training. We are in the process of setting up a training
schedule in order to accommodate as many people as possible. Family
ASTRO training will generally be offered on an annual basis.
As
part of the Family ASTRO leader training, partners and individuals
learn how to use and present our hands-on family astronomy kits,
discuss how to best work with families in science education, and
develop a practical plan for hosting family events.
If
you are an astronomer, 4th-9th grade teacher,
museum educator, or youth group leader, we encourage you to attend
one of our training sessions. For an introduction to hosting family
events, please visit our Frequently
Asked Questions page.
