 n this 2 hour\, interactive workshop participants will gain an understandi
 ng of basic techniques and considerations when engaging with public audien
 ces.\n\nEngaging and interacting with public audiences in an informal lear
 ning setting such as a public outreach event is different from a formal cl
 assroom. In this workshop participants will reflect on their own experienc
 es with informal learning and what qualities make them meaningful. Activit
 ies and discussions will cover topics such as how people layer new informa
 tion on top of prior knowledge and experience\, as well as strategies and 
 techniques to have effective communication through two-way dialogue.\n\nRe
 sources and relevant links for further learning will also be shared. \n\nT
 his workshop takes place in one 2-hour session.\n\nParticipants will gain 
 the following through participation in the workshop:\n\n    -An introducti
 on to effective communication techniques for use with public audiences.\n 
    -Strategies we have found to be successful at engaging learners of all 
 ages.\n    -Access to astronomy communication experts who will facilitate 
 the workshop.\n    -A free 6 month subscription to Mercury magazine online
 .\n    -A certificate of completion for participating in 2 clock hours of 
 professional development.\n\nRegistration: $25\n\nAttendance/Refund Policy
