X-WR-CALDESC:The Silicon Valley Lectures Series is back in person!\n\nOn We
 dnesday\, Feb. 8\, 2023 at 7 pm (PST)\, Dr. Andrew Siemion (U of Californi
 a\, Berkeley & SETI Institute) will give a free\, illustrated\, non-techni
cal lecture entitled: \n\n“Our Boldest Effort to Answer our Oldest Questi
on: The Breakthrough Listen Search for Intelligent Life Beyond Earth' \n\n
Location: Smithwick Theater at Foothill College\, in Los Altos (see direct
ions below) \n\nWe ask that attendees be vaccinated and boosted against CO
VID-19 and wear a mask while indoors at the event. Extra masks will be pro

ure on YouTube: see link below\n\nThe talk is part of the Silicon Valley A
stronomy Lecture Series\, now in its 23rd year. \n\nABOUT THE LECTURE:\n\n
For centuries\, humans have gazed at the night sky and wondered what is ou
t there. Over time\, we have come to know many of the answers\; how our o
wn planet Earth and Sun came to be\, how they dance in a sea of other star
s hosting their own planetary systems\, and how the structure of the unive
rse has evolved on the grandest scales. But one of our biggest questions
remains unanswered: is anyone or anything out there staring back at us? T
oday we are answering that question using the tools of astronomy\, surveyi
ng other worlds for the tell-tale indicators of technology. Dr. Siemion w
ill describe the state-of-the-art in hunting for intelligent life in the c
osmos and how the largest telescopes in the world are now being used to co
nduct searches of unprecedented scope and sensitivity. \n\nABOUT THE SPEAK
ER\n\nDr. Andrew Siemion is the Bernard Oliver Chair for SETI at the SETI
Institute and Director of the Berkeley SETI Research Center. His research
interests include high energy time-variable celestial phenomena\, astronom
ical instrumentation and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SET
I). He is the Principal Investigator for the $100 million Breakthrough: Li
sten program\, the most sophisticated search yet for signs of technology a
mong the stars. \n\nLOCATION:\n\nFoothill College is just off the El Monte
Road exit from Freeway 280 in Los Altos. \n\nFor directions and parking
