X-WR-CALDESC:NOTE: This workshop has been canceled and will be rescheduled
 at a later date.\n\nJoin Brian Kruse\, ASP's Director\, Teacher Learning C
 enter and Formal Education Programs\, on September 9\, 2025 for a Learn@ A
SP Online Workshop - Astronomical Phenomena in the Classroom.\n\nThe recen
t solar eclipses presented a fantastic anchoring phenomenon everyone in th
e country was able to experience. It was easy to get learners excited abou
t astronomy when all they had to do was look up. So\, what do we do now to
take advantage of the excitement to keep them engaged in space science? A
t times it is a bit of a mystery of what constitutes an anchoring phenomen
on for space science instruction.\n\nIn this session\, educators from The
Astronomical Society of the Pacific will engage participants in an explora
tion of a variety of anchoring phenomena to actively engage learners in as
tronomy content. These may include phenomena leading to questions such as:
Why is the night sky dark? How does a telescope help to see faint and dis
tant objects? How do we know the Earth goes around the Sun when we seem to
see the opposite?\n\nParticipants will receive information for exploring
these topics in greater depth\, along with resources to help implement 3-d
imensional learning of space science in the classroom.\n\nParticipants wil
l gain the following through participation in the workshop:\n\n Familia
rity with a variety of astronomical phenomena and how to potentially incor
porate them into their curriculum.\n Improved skill at identifying anal
ogous phenomena that could potentially stand in for inaccessible astronomi
cal phenomena.\n Strategies we have found to successful at engaging lea
rners of all ages.\n Access to astronomy experts who will facilitate th
e workshop.\n A certificate of completion for participating in 2 clock
 hours of professional development.\n\nRegistration: $40\n\nAttendance/Refu
nd Policy\n\nLive attendance is strongly encouraged and expected in order
to get the most out of the interactive session. Full refund is available f
or cancellations up to 14 days prior to the start of the workshop. If you
need to cancel please email learn@astrosociety.org.\n\n\n\n\n
