Astro 101 for Smart Telescopes

Astro 101: Imaging the Universe with Your Unistellar Telescope

Presented by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, in partnership with Unistellar and SETI.

What if the images you’re capturing with your Unistellar telescope weren’t just beautiful — but deeply meaningful? What if you could understand the science behind each glowing nebula, flickering star, or exoplanet you observe — what their color, brightness, and structure reveal about the life cycles of stars, the expansion of the cosmos, and even the hunt for distant worlds?

Astro 101: Imaging the Universe with your Unistellar Telescope is a brand-new, 5-part online workshop series designed exclusively for owners of Unistellar smart telescopes, including both the eVscope, eQuinox, and Odyssey models, who are ready to unlock the full scientific power of their instrument.

Led by expert astronomers from the Astronomical Society of the Pacific — America’s first national astronomy organization, founded in 1889 — along with Unistellar’s world-class team and SETI Institute researchers advancing the search for life beyond Earth, this series will guide you through the essential concepts of modern astronomy while deepening your skills with your Unistellar telescope.

Each 2-hour session discusses the astronomy of a different celestial object — from variable stars to exoplanets — and teaches you how to observe and interpret its features scientifically. Learn how to analyze brightness, shape, and color. Understand light curves, stellar evolution, and how you can contribute to real astronomy research.

Starts Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 1pm ET
Sessions are held bi-weekly, live online, and recorded for flexible access.

Added Bonus: Registered participants get exclusive access to a private Slack channel — a space to ask questions, share discoveries, engage with instructors, and connect with fellow Unistellar users. It’s your gateway to a community of practice that continues long after the workshop ends.

Why Should I Enroll in Astro 101?

Astro 101 is more than just an online class — it’s your gateway to transforming telescope images into scientific discoveries, deepening your knowledge of the cosmos, and connecting with a vibrant community of explorers. Whether you’re looking to sharpen your skills, contribute to real research, or simply experience the universe in a whole new way, Astro 101 will empower you to see the night sky like never before.

Unistellar provides the revolutionary smart telescopes that make this workshop possible, while SETI Institute brings decades of scientific expertise in the search for life and exploration of the cosmos.

By the end of the series, you’ll be able to:

  • Identify and interpret colors, shapes, and brightness in your images
  • Create light curves of variable stars and exoplanet transits
  • Understand what deep sky objects tell us about cosmic evolution
  • Contribute data to real scientific research

Benefits of Our Exclusive Slack Channel:

  • Continue conversations from live classes between sessions
  • Ask questions directly to instructors and guest astronomers
  • Share your images and discoveries with a supportive community
  • Connect and network with like-minded smart telescope users
  • Access a community of practice that lasts beyond the workshop

Whether you’re retired and curious, a young skywatcher just starting out, or a smart telescope enthusiast who wants to do more than just take pictures — Astro 101 is your path to exploring the universe with meaning.
