Father of SETI, Frank Drake, Turns 90

Frank Drake, who pioneered the scientific search for extra-terrestrial intelligence, turns 90 years old today.

He is perhaps best known for the ”Drake Equation,” a formula for making estimates of the number of technological civilizations in the Galaxy that are capable of communicating with us. Drake was President of the ASP Board of Directors when the ASP celebrated 100 years back in 1989. He also co-wrote an ASP AstroBeat article "The Origin of the Drake Equation."
