Kevin Jerome Everson

Kevin Jerome Everson. Commonwealth Professor of Art, Director of Studio Arts, University of Virginia, Everson is the recipient of the Guggenheim; Berlin Prize; Heinz Award in Art and Humanities; Alpert Award for Film/Video and the Rome Prize. His art practice encompasses printmaking, photography, sculpture and film - 12 features and over 200 shorts to date that screen regularly at film festivals including Sundance, Rotterdam, Berlinale, Black Star, NYFF, AFI, Media City, and Indie Memphis, among others. Three of his recent 16mm films document the 2017 solar eclipse (Polly One & Polly Two) and the 2019 solar eclipse (Condor) and he has also made films focusing on the moon (Rough and Unequal: Oceanus Procellarum (2017), Black Vulture (2021) and Thirty-Seven Degrees (2023). His work has been the subject of numerous mid-career retrospectives and solo exhibitions and has been featured at the 2008, 2012 and 2017 Whitney Biennial, the 2013 Sharjah Biennial and the 2018 Carnegie International. Everson was born in Mansfield, Ohio and lives and works in Charlottesville, Virginia.
