Denise Smith
Dr. Denise Smith is the Deputy Division Head of the Office of Public Outreach at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI). In this role, Dr. Smith provides broad direction for the organization’s world-class public engagement efforts and serves as the Principal Investigator for the NASA’s Universe of Learning program. She has extensive experience providing leadership and direction for programs that incorporate scientific discoveries from NASA’s Astrophysics missions into a variety of learning environments, including museums, science centers, libraries, and online. Dr. Smith received her Ph.D. in astronomy from Cornell University, and held postdoctoral research appointments at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and STScI prior to specializing in education and public outreach.
