Registration Open for Fall 2021 or Combo TLC Virtual Astronomy

Virtual Session runs October 19 - January 25, 2022

New Dates, New Deadline - Registration closes October 10, 11:59 pm PT.

For millennia humans have looked to the sky, finding patterns which in many ways continue to govern our lives. With the development of the telescope and other tools to decipher the light from distant objects, we now have the ability to both observe and describe celestial phenomena, including the composition and processes behind what we see.

In this Virtual Astronomy Institute we will explore our perceptions of the universe, and ways we can engage those we work with in the current understanding of what is taking place. From present day Earth to the ancient glow of the Big Bang, we will journey through space and time as we explore our place in the greater cosmos, expanding our own understanding and experience of the universe of which we are a part.

What: Each twelve week course includes six 1.5 hour live sessions, with time between sessions for individual explorations and reflections as well as trying out a variety of activities. Live sessions will include small group discussions, interactive activities for use with learners in your own programs, and brief explanatory lectures. An asynchronous discussion forum will allow for sharing of ideas and explorations in between live sessions.

Who: People with an interest in enhancing their knowledge and ability to share the wonders of the universe: classroom teachers, museum educators, park interpreters, out of school time youth leaders, amateur astronomers, college and university faculty.

University Credit: Earn 2 semester graduate credits for the Institute! Both the Fall and Winter combined session must be taken. Available through the University of the Pacific Continuing Education program. Information to come soon.
