Big Astronomy Day and International Astronomy Day

All month and on April 29 - all day events

April 29 is Big Astronomy Day:
Throughout the month of April, communities across the world will host events screening the award-winning film “Big Astronomy: People, Places, Discoveries.” Look for local schools, libraries, museums, planetariums and other community spaces who might be hosting a Big Astronomy Community Event in April.

Event Hosts:
Originally intended for planetarium display, the Big Astronomy show has also been formatted for flat screen! Event hosts and educators can access the film for free at the Big Astronomy site (see link below). The film is subtitled and available in English, Spanish, German and French. Hosts and educators can also access a wealth of educational resources including hands-on activities and additional interview footage with observatory staff.

Accessibility:
Teaching and Learning Resources for blind and low vision (BLV) and deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) persons are now available! Thanks to support from the US National Science Foundation, the Big Astronomy film and supplemental videos include captioning and some include descriptive audio. In addition, The ASP created a suite of hands-on activities that now include new resources for BLV learners. See below to apply for a Blind and Low Vision kit.
