Andrew Fraknoi
Andrew Fraknoi retired as Chair of Astronomy at Foothill College a few years ago, but still teaches non-credit classes for retired people through U. of San Francisco’s Fromm Institute and the OLLI program at SF State and nationally. He is the lead author of the free, online “Astronomy” textbook from the nonprofit OpenStax Project, which has been used by over 1.1 million students and is now the most-adopted introductory astronomy book in North America. A former Executive Director of the ASP, Fraknoi has overseen the creation of its free “Universe in the Classroom” newsletter, its Project ASTRO and Family ASTRO, the AAS/ASP Ambassadors training program, and a number of other initiatives.
