NSN Webinar Series - Solar Waves in Interstellar Space: Findings from Voyager with Dr. Jamie Rankin
NSN Webinars are back on!
Join the NASA Night Sky Network on Thursday, November 20, at 6:00 PM Pacific Time (9:00 PM Eastern), along with Jamie Rankin, where we’ll discuss the plasma, magnetic field, and particle environment from the Sun to the interstellar medium, surveyed by Voyager 1 & 2.
About Dr. Jamie Rankin:
Dr. Jamie Sue Rankin received her PhD from Caltech in 2019 under Dr. Ed Stone, who served as the Voyager’s project scientist for 50 years – from its inception to interstellar space. Jamie arrived at Caltech 6 days after Voyager 1 crossed the heliopause and has continued to watch history unfold ever since! Her PhD thesis was the first to analyze these surprising new measurements from beyond our astrosphere. Now a Research Scholar at Princeton University, Jamie serves as the Deputy Project Scientist of the Voyager mission (https://science.nasa.gov/mission/voya.... She also leads the Solar Wind and Pickup Ion (SWAPI) instrument on NASA’s IMAP mission, which launched into space on September 24, 2025 (https://imap.princeton.edu/) and is now making its way to L1. Jamie also studies the energetic particle observations at the other heliospheric extreme – very close in to the Sun – on Parker Solar Probe.
