ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Funded by the National Science Foundation's Division of Astronomy, this project provided a new professional development program (ASP Eclipse Stars) for research astronomers and astronomy educators who planned to engage people of all ages in the Total Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024.
ASP offered two separate programs of support: one for K-12 science teachers and other science educators and another one for research astronomers (scientists, post docs, and graduate students). Participants in both programs received coaching by experts in astronomy education and public engagement as well as official certification as an ASP Eclipse Star!
For K-12 Science Teachers and other Science Educators

With funding from the National Science Foundation, the Astronomical Society Of The Pacific announces a professional development program (ASP Eclipse Stars) for classroom teachers and other educators located along the path of totality. You will learn about solar eclipses and discover learning activities designed so you and your students will better understand what causes this awesome celestial event and how to view totality safely.
For Scientists, post docs, and graduate students
Are you located along or close to the path of totality and interested in engaging the public for the April 2024 total solar eclipse?
Professional development for scientists includes a 3-hour online interactive workshop, a FREE kit of hands-on activities and materials, and access to the ASP's extensive collection of education resources. The program will focus on providing scientists with tactics to improve their public science communication and engagement skills. This program is especially designed for scientists who plan to awe, engage, and inspire public audiences located within or near the path of totality.

We're prepared for the upcoming solar eclipses with the popular Sunspotter scope, Lunt SUNoculars, updated exclusive ASP Yardstick kits and the ability to special order quantities in time for both events. All proceeds support the education programs of the ASP.
